Zusammenfassung

Across the world, regular citizens of all ages are bravely and spontaneously standing up to forces of oppression and exploitation. Now, a leader of the Palestinian liberation movement shares a blueprint to channel that impulse into lasting change.

Drawing from his personal experiences on the front lines of political activism on the ground in Palestine, interviews with other zillennial movement leaders around the globe, and his decades-long studies of global liberation movements from South Africa to Vietnam, Fadi Quran shows how regular people can build power even in the face of oppression and devastation.

Like so many young people who feel disenfranchised, Quran explains that none of the political options available in Palestine truly represented his beliefs, so he set out to create his own. In On Liberation, he argues that successful movements rest on five interlocking pillars: internal cohesion, coercive power, economic leverage, strategic alliance, and strategic coordination. Each chapter will illustrate one of these concepts, showing how Quran came to believe in their essential nature. As countless concerned citizens feel this way all over the world, from Nepal to Peru to the United States, they are seeking a practical message of hope, one only Fadi can deliver.

Fadi Quran was born in Jerusalem and grew up in Palestine. He studied at Stanford, but returned to the West Bank after college to fight for freedom, justice and dignity for the Palestinian people. Fadi also serves as the senior director at Avaaz, a global movement with 69 million members dedicated to driving change worldwide. Previously, he served as the UN Advocacy Officer with the International Commission of Jurist's affiliate in Palestine, where he specialized in international law and human rights advocacy. He's been arrested by both the Israeli military and the Palestinian Authority for his organizing and human rights work. His insights and expertise have been featured in The Economist, The Guardian, Time, CNN, NPR, BBC, Al-Jazeera, AFP, Jadilaya, and more. He holds degrees in Physics and International Relations from Stanford University.
